Frequently Asked Questions
I have a new project. How do I get started?
That's great! The best way to get in touch with me is through the project inquiry form on my contact page. Please be as thorough as possible. When I send you an email back, I'll include a scheduling link so we can hop on a free Discovery Call together to gather more details about your project and brand needs. Sometimes it's easier to express ourselves verbally, instead of just talking to a computer. If we both agree we're ready to move forward, I will send along a Design Agreement and a 50% Deposit to secure a spot in my schedule and get started.
How soon should I contact you about my project?
It’s easy to underestimate the amount of time we may need for a project, so the sooner the better. Timeline is heavily dependent on the scope of your needs, as well as my current schedule. Contact me as soon as you can, even if it's 6 months in advance. It's better to know ahead of time if I'm available, than be disappointed that you waited. My schedule varies month to month, but, if you submit a project inquiry, I’ll see what my schedule is like and we can go from there. Projects are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis, secured by a deposit.
How long will my project take?
Project timelines depend on the scope of your project. The more services required, the longer it will take. If you need a website, remember we’ll need to have things like branding, copywriting, and product offerings all sorted out before design can begin – and that can take some time to get together. I can help with all of these things, but it’s safe to assume we won’t get a website up in a month. A typical timeframe for a Wordpress website is 3-6 months (depending on scope), and branding is 1-2 months. A typical timeframe for a Squarespace website is 2-3 months. Brand strategy is ongoing thoughout every project.
Do you design WordPress or Squarespace sites?
Both! What I design is about 50% Squarespace, and 50% WordPress. If you're not sure which platform is right for you and your project, we can talk about your ultimate vision and determine the best fit for your needs. I'm happy to make a recommendation.
Do you do custom web design or work from pre-existing templates?
I offer custom design solutions, whether you choose Wordpress or Squrespace for your project. My Wordpress design work is always 100% custom, providing the ultimate unique experience for your site visitors. While Squarespace projects work off a base template, there is still customization involved, but way more than just changing colors and fonts! All of my Squarespace projects involve some custom CSS code so that your site is not just an out-of-the box template. I think with either platform you choose, you'll be very pleased and will have a unique brand experience.
Do you do website development?
With Squarespace projects, I do the custom CSS coding myself. With Wordpress projects I focus solely on design and strategy, and I partner with a few talented developers to execute my designs with ease. This allows me to focus on what I'm best at, and allows my developers to do what they're best at as well...like a fine oiled machine. You'll find our partnership to be flawless and easy-breazy. It allows for us to continue working on other areas of your project, while development is going on simultaneously so you don't skip a beat or find yourself waiting around for a linear process. It's a win-win for everyone. For Wordpress, fill out the project inquiry form on the contact page to contact me for a custom quote. All of my quotes include design + development, so you're taken care of.
I just need design. Can I drop the strategy portion to save money?
Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. However, that's great news for you because it adds tremendous value to your project and brand! Strategy plays a role in every project I do because it informs the design. Think of it like this: strategy is the plan, design is part of the visual solution. Brand strategy is a long-term plan for the development of a successful brand in order to achieve specific goals. A well-defined and executed brand strategy affects all aspects of your business (whether you realize it or not)! Design without strategy can be pretty meaningless and unintentional. I believe that design with strategy is not only smart, but necessary.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, in order to make it easier for you, I offer a payment plan for Branding and Website Design. Projects are split into three payments with a 50% deposit, a 25% payment, and a final 25% payment.
What type of work are you NOT able to help me with?
There are certain types of projects I’m unable to take on: rush work ("need it done yesterday" projects), web development-only work (although I can refer you to a developer), website fixes, customizing a website template that you've already bought, or "a little bit of this and that" small piecemeal work (i.e. banners or individual graphics for your website). If you think your project is a good fit, submitting a project inquiry is the best way for you to contact me. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
I see we live in different places. How will that work?
The great thing about this kind of work is that we can do it from anywhere! We will use a project management system for your project, and you'll find it really intuitive. I also provide easy instruction on how to use those platforms if you're not familiar.
How many people work with you?
I’m the only one in my design studio (unless you count my lazy french bulldog), but I partner with people in other fields when necessary, such as for web development, brand photography, video editing, motion graphics, and copywriting. Don't feel like a project is ever too large to consider, as I have many resources for collaboration available to me, and can help coordinate and facilitate those connections for your project.
I'm considering my budget. How much does it cost to hire you?
I have "starting at" prices on my work with me page that you can check out. It’s hard to say how much a custom Wordpress website design project will cost without knowing the details and scope of your project, as it depends on your needs and goals, but I'd love to chat with you about it. Feel free to contact me by filling out a project inquiry form, so we can begin a discussion. Once I know everything I need to know about your project goals, I can prepare an estimate for you.
I found someone who charges less than you. Can you match their price?
Probably not. Just as you carefully choose who you work with, I choose clients who value the extra effort and attention to detail that I bring to the partnership. There are loads designers and consultants out there who will charge less, but once you’ve worked with me you’ll appreciate the care and dedication that I put into every project. If you have any questions, feel free to bring them to my attention and we can discuss.
Have another question? Ask me!
If you have another question about my services, process, and how I work, email me and I’ll get back to you personally.
